&lt;p&gt;And when do we use it?  The Apple Human Interface Guidelines don't say, except that their section on &lt;a href="http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGWindows/chapter_17_section_3.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000957-20000961-BABIFCFJ"&gt;toolbars&lt;/a&gt; shows a window with this look, but no commentary.  So I guess... whenever you feel like it.  &lt;em&gt;*sigh*&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
